Production sex workers are often paid the highest wages in the industry, but the product quality and cost of the products is often higher than in other sectors.
According to research firm Technomic, products made by companies with sex production lines can cost up to $10,000.
For example, the average price of a sex toy from a company like Naughty America is around $20,000, while the average cost of a condom from a manufacturer like Sex Toy Company is around 40,000 US dollars.
However, it’s not just the price of the sex toys that is high.
In fact, according to the United Nations, the production of sex products is a major contributor to a staggering global inequality.
According the World Economic Forum, global production of the materials used in sex toys costs an estimated $1.2 trillion annually, which is an astounding number that’s dwarfed by the world’s manufacturing industries.
To put that in perspective, the United States alone spends $3.2 billion per year on medical, education, and other activities related to sex education.
The report, Sex Toys, Human Trafficking, and Global Economic Inequality: Exploring the Implications of Sex-Based Products in Human Traffickers, also found that, in 2013, sex production accounted for $6.7 billion in illicit profits, a staggering figure.
It’s not surprising that sex production contributes to an ever-growing global inequality, as the vast majority of sex workers and producers are women and girls.
The UN estimates that 1 in 6 women in the world is a sex worker, with more than 2 million women working in the sex industry.
According a 2016 report by the World Bank, sex trafficking is estimated to be responsible for a $1 trillion-plus global economy.
Sex workers often face serious physical and psychological abuse from pimps and johns.
However the US government doesn’t appear to take sex workers’ concerns seriously.
In December of last year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at removing the term “sex trafficking” from the government’s list of crimes against humanity.
It seems as though the Trump administration has made a concerted effort to push sex trafficking in the United Sates criminal justice system to be the same as any other crimes.
